Declining Cost of Acquiring and Storing Wind and Solar Energy
The World Energy Council reports the declining cost of acquiring and storing wind and solar energy will lead to increased energy storage deployment. The clean energy revolution continues to gain momentum, with record-breaking wind and solar capacity added in 2015. In California, solar power became the number one source of renewable energy last year, accounting for nearly 10% of the state’s electricity. In response to this growth, the ATRE delivered a well-timed energy storage and PV training program on January 12-13, 2016.
Community College and High School Faculty From Across the State Attended the Training at Skyline College
Community college and high school faculty from across the state attended the training at Skyline College in the north and Long Beach City College in the south. Industry partners from PG&E, Tierra Institute International and Luminalt, among others, were also in attendance and contributed their unique perspectives and insights.
Over the course of two days, top energy experts discussed the latest issues and trends related to energy storage systems.
Ron Ishii, Principal/Chairman of Alternative Energy Storage Consulting guided participants through an overview of energy storage and characteristics, and was followed by an informational presentation on current energy storage issues and prospects. Bernie Kotlier, member of the CalCharge Board of Directors, discussed the need for worker training given the anticipated growth of energy storage and microgrids. Developments in PV racking system technology and trends in PV system financing were also presented.
“The two-day program was exceptional,” said Jessica Losch, Adjunct Faculty at Long Beach City College. “It provided some excellent direction to focus on areas of future employment growth, which will help us better prepare our students. The industry big picture and major trends were very helpful.”
