Representatives from education and industry recently met with high school and college students to discuss careers in the aviation industry.
Aviation Day, held November 30 at College of Alameda’s airport training facility, was partially funded by CETI and featured speakers from United Airlines, Alaskan Airlines, Embry Riddle University, and the FAA. Nearly 90 high school students attended the event, along with a few college students and parents.
The day was split into two sessions that followed the same format. Each session began with a welcome from College of Alameda Interim Vice President of Instruction Myron Jordan, followed by industry representative talks and open discussion. The program concluded with a guided tour of the training facility.
Pamela Gutman, CETI Deputy Sector Navigator in the Bay Region, said Aviation Day was an important outreach event in the region and highlighted industry need for graduates of the college’s Aviation Maintenance Technology program.
“Aviation technicians are badly needed in the San Francisco Bay Area,” Gutman said. “The aviation program at College of Alameda is making a comeback, and as the DSN for the area, I am doing what I can to support not only this aviation program, but these programs for the entire region.”
