More than 200 people from across industry, government, and education came together at American River College in June to receive specialized training on municipal equipment at the college’s third annual Municipal Fleet Academy.
Participants included Advanced Transportation and Logistics Statewide Director Jannet Malig, as well as vendors, trainers, technicians, and students. The two-day event featured more than a dozen sessions on equipment such as sewer trucks, bucket trucks, and alternative fuel vehicles.

The original funding of $1 million allowed for 12 high schools across the state to offer clean fuels technology training to students, introduce opportunities to students who may not have considered a career in clean fuels transportation, and encourage interested students to matriculate into well-established community college programs to continue their studies.
More than 3,500 participants participate in the state-run program each year. It’s a great opportunity to expose more young people to the life-transforming training and education offered through community colleges.

The New Bremen, Ohio-based business is one of the largest manufacturers of electric and alternative fuel forklifts in the world.
The San Diego Regional Unmanned Aerial Vehicle meeting was held in May and attended by representatives from San Diego State University and six of the region’s 10 community colleges: Palomar College, Miramar College, Grossmont College, Southwestern College, MiraCosta College, and San Diego City College.
The Second Annual Drone Industry and Education Summit event held April 19 at the Center Club Orange County brought together faculty, business and industry partners/leaders, K-12 representatives from local school districts and ROPs, and non-profit educational organizations such as The Autonomy Foundation and Vital Link.
