Fallbrook High School Teacher Wins Harbor Freight Award

Dennis Johnson, automotive instructor at Fallbrook High School and advocate for ATL pathways, was recently recognized for his educational achievements by Harbor Freight Tools with the 2019 Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence.

Johnson worked in the automotive industry for 30 years before going back to school to become an automotive instructor. He received a bachelor’s degree in career and technical studies from Cal State San Bernardino in 2003 and has been at Fallbrook since 2017. Read More →

Aviation Classes Expanded to Sacramento City College Davis Center

At the beginning of the fall 2019 school year, Sacramento City College expanded its aviation classes to its Davis Center.

The department of Advanced Transportation Technology at both the Davis Center and McClellan currently offers courses and/or certificate programs in Aeronautics, Flight Technology, and Non-Destructive Testing. This department focuses on new and emerging transportation-related courses, as well as traditional training, which may lead directly to employment in local, state, and nationally recognized fields. 2020 Scholarship Application Now Open for the ASC Educational Foundation

Applications are currently being accepted for the Automotive Service Councils Educational Foundation (ASCEF) 2020 scholarships! Each year, the ASCEF awards 18 scholarships ranging from $500 – $1,000. These scholarships provide assistance to current under-graduates who are in the automotive service field.

Overall Qualifications: You must be planning to seek employment in the California after-market/independent repair industry and be a

  • California high school senior who plans to enroll in post high school technical and academic training or
  • California college under-graduate in the automotive service field.

Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2020.

American River College Municipal Fleet Academy Sees Third Year of Success

More than 200 people from across industry, government, and education came together at American River College in June to receive specialized training on municipal equipment at the college’s third annual Municipal Fleet Academy.

Participants included Advanced Transportation and Logistics Statewide Director Jannet Malig, as well as vendors, trainers, technicians, and students. The two-day event featured more than a dozen sessions on equipment such as sewer trucks, bucket trucks, and alternative fuel vehicles.

Municipal governments often do not have the resources to provide in-house training, which creates an opportunity for industry and community colleges to come together to fill the educational gap. Read More →

Cerritos College Partners with California Conservation Corps on Certificate Program

The California Conservation Corps (CCC) is a unique, program for young adults throughout the state to get paid while completing a year of service improving California’s environment, earning job certifications and making California an even better place to live.

More than 3,500 participants participate in the state-run program each year. It’s a great opportunity to expose more young people to the life-transforming training and education offered through community colleges.

Cerritos College is one of several community colleges now working with the CCC to award certificates of completion for on-the-job skills acquired in the program. This certificate is designed to introduce Corpsmembers to college and be the first step on a pathway toward a degree. Read More →
