De Anza College has relationships with hundreds of dealers and repair shops throughout the Cupertino area.

CEC funding is helping to drive a new program in the area of Clean Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle repair.
Automotive Technology Instructor Randy Bryant said the college recently purchased a CNG truck that will be a great asset to the college’s work training mechanics to repair tow trucks and other heavy-duty equipment.
The college’s wide network of partnerships means that the 700 students who enroll each quarter can find a job if they want one, whether it’s a dealership like Audi of America or municipal fleet operations like San Jose Public Works.
Bryant estimates that he fields about 250 calls each year from employers looking to hire his students.

“There are so many people calling us for jobs, and we have more job offers than we can fulfill with students,” Bryant said. “If our students want to work, we can get them a job.”

The equipment purchased through CEC funding has enabled community colleges to enhance their relationships with employers in their areas. Students receive hands-on training with the latest equipment and complete their programs ready to dive into the workforce. These partnerships are a win all around — students receive high-paying jobs, employers receive well-qualified students, and some colleges can even guarantee job placements to their automotive program graduates.
