The Zero Emissions Vehicle Training Enhancement Program

A Competitive Solicitation Awarding a Total of $2.6 Million

In August 2016 the Advanced Transportation and Logistics Sector of the California Community Colleges released a competitive solicitation awarding a total of $2.6 million to address the regional workforce technical training needs for workers who will be employed by fleets, dealerships, independent shops and similar organizations. A total of 15 community colleges were funded as part of this program.

Funds to Purchase Equipment, Diagnostic Tools and Technical Lab Components for Students

Colleges utilized the funds to purchase equipment, diagnostic tools and technical lab components for students to use in the classroom. Colleges also revamped their heavy duty, diesel, advanced automotive and alternative fuel vehicle curriculum, adding courses and certificates that align with local workplace demands.

Funding made it possible for faculty members to participate in professional development training that enables them to teach the most current technologies to their students.

Alternative-Fuel Technical Training Provided by SCRTTC and Stanford Transportation Group

Workforce technical training was provided through the Southern California Regional Transit Training Consortium (SCRTTC) and through Stanford Transportation Group. Both organizations provided alternative fuel technical training sessions to the transit workforce which includes employees of public transportation agencies, academic instructors and members of the Municipal Equipment Maintenance Association in northern and southern California.

The California Energy Commission’s Clean Transportation Program provides funding to support innovation and accelerate the development and deployment of advanced transportation and fuel technologies.
