A career fair and awards ceremony organized earlier this year by the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association (GLANCDA) are part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting career and technical education.
The association hosted a career fair February 21 at the Pacific Palms Resort City of Industry. The event gave students from Rio Hondo College, Citrus College, and Cerritos College the opportunity to network with more than a dozen dealerships and dealer groups throughout the region.
More than 125 students attended the event, and many received interviews and job offers as a result. A similar event was held in October, and another is scheduled for May 16 at the Cerritos Sheraton.
The May career fair will be open to students from Cerritos College, Compton College, and El Camino College, as well as students from other community colleges in the region who did not have the chance to attend one of the previous events.
In addition to the career fairs, GLANCDA also provided major gifts to Citrus College, Rio Hondo College, and Pasadena City College. The funds were given to be used for automotive program equipment/software/hardware needs.
Wendy Lucko, Auto Program Lead Instructor at Pasadena City College, said the college used the funds from GLANCDA to purchase equipment for its new Service Writing program and a new thermal imager for its diagnostics sources.
“We purchased the invoicing software, standing writer desks, and all the key tags and supplies needed to go with the course,” Lucko said. “Some of my students were at the Palms event and had interviews also!”
