More than 800 people from California and beyond have attended the Mindful Mobility seminar series, organized by the Mobilize California Summit, Green Transportation Summit & Expo, and the West Coast Collaborative in place of in-person events scheduled for earlier this year.
Eight webinars held from July through October covered topics including preparing for the transition to electric vehicles and preparing a workforce for transportation industry changes. Attendees included fleet managers for public utilities, analysts from the U.S. Department of Energy and California Department of Transportation, environmental specialists from several states as well as college faculty and K-12 transportation directors.
“These groups got together to produce this webinar series as a response to the COVID restrictions that prevented our original in-person conferences planned,” said ATL Statewide Director Jannet Malig. “We wanted to ensure our communities were still able to receive workforce training while we wait for restrictions to lift.”
The Electric Vehicle “How To” Series covered preparing for electric transition, infrastructure and other next steps. Addressing Workforce Fundamentals Training for EV’s and ADAS walked participants through ADAS foundations for technicians, preparing service facilities for EV’s and ADAS and building partnerships to drive education opportunities and funding.
Technicians already working and those just starting out benefitted from the ADAS content. “Excellent learning for me as a technician trainee,” noted a participant. “This will help give a leg-up on my upcoming Tesla training.”
Those in management roles appreciated the inside look into what techs need to learn in the ZEV environment. “Thank you for offering this to the public,” said a participant. “It’s helpful for us to know what technicians are learning at the community college level. These hands-on presentations bring a fresh perspective to workforce development in the ZEV landscape.”
The Mindful Mobility series will continue throughout November with events on bringing electric carshare to rural communities and ride sharing and delivery workers in San Francisco.
