Frala and Rio Hondo to be honored at the 28th Annual Clean Air Awards in October
Professor John Frala and Rio Hondo College have been selected as joint winners of a South Coast Air Quality Management District Clean Air Award in the category of Clean Air Education and Outreach. This award honors visionaries in the region who made clean air contributions through innovation, leadership and exemplary service.
Frala worked hard to design the state’s first Associate of Science degree in Electric Vehicle/Fuel Cell Technician Technology, which was approved by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office earlier this year.
“It took two years from paper to validation for this new Associate of Science degree,” said Frala. “I am honored that AQMD has recognized my program as a cutting edge program in ZERO Emission education. The first Associate of Science degree in Electric Vehicle/Fuel Cell Technician Technology will serve as a role model for many programs to follow.”
The South Coast AQMD is the air pollution agency for Orange County and urban areas of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. The region covers 10,743 square miles and is among the smoggiest areas in the U.S. The South Coast AQMD encourages individuals, organizations and local businesses to participate in helping to clean the air.
“California offers the workforce so many opportunities and career paths,” said Frala. “This award shows that clean, green and sustainable are not just words, it is a career path for generations to live by.”
This year’s event will take place on Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Riverside Convention Center. For more information about the South Coast AQMD, visit www.aqmd.gov.
