Rio Hondo College Partners with LA Metro for Site Visit

About 30 automotive technology and engineering design/drafting students from Rio Hondo College recently visited the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) as part of a partnership between the two organizations to showcase career opportunities in the ATL sector.

LA Metro is among the largest transportation agencies in the U.S., serving more than 9 million people over 1400 square miles. The agency serves as a hub for transportation planning, designing, building, and operations.

Aaron Perez, a job developer at Rio Hondo College, said the event was well-received by students, who were impressed with the wide range of careers available through LA Metro.

“We discussed careers such as bus technicians, welders, supply chain, designers, construction, CNC Machinist,” Perez said. “They pretty much told us to think about any job you can dream of, and we probably have it. A student shouted out ‘Archeologist!’ and they said they actually have one on staff.”

The visit came about after Perez attended an LA Metro tour hosted by the LAOC Regional Consortium earlier this year.

“I followed up after to see if I could provide the same tour for Rio Hondo College students,” Perez said. “Metro was happy with the turnout, and we plan on making other trips to visit different divisions.”

Perez and the students created a video from the event.
