The first semester of the college’s Bachelor of Science program is underway

upper-coursesRio Hondo College is one of 15 community colleges offering a four-year degree by the 2017-18 academic year. Rio Hondo now offers a Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology with two pathways: Business & Marketing and Technical.

“I really wanted (the four-year Automotive Technology) degree offered on this campus,” said Michael Slavich, Dean of Rio Hondo College’s career and technical education programs. “I am a graduate of the automotive program; I know what it can do to change people’s lives and their careers.”

The Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology builds on the college’s existing Automotive Technology Program, which is well aligned with the automotive industry both regionally and nationally.
Successful candidates for employment within organizations requiring a baccalaureate degree in this field need high level advanced Automotive Technology skills and knowledge. They also need strong interpersonal skills, such as the ability to communicate effectively, solve problems, work in teams, and pursue continued professional development. All of these skills are emphasized in program courses.
There are eight students enrolled in upper division major courses this fall, with more to follow as they complete the first two years of the program.
Students interested in applying will want to attend the Automotive Technology Bachelor of Science information session webinar to be scheduled in October. It will cover program admission requirements, career opportunities, application deadlines and more. For more information, visit the program website here.
