The Southern California Regional Transit Training Consortium (SCRTTC) is a leading provider of public transit training to organizations in North America, all from right here in California.
The organization already partners with several California Community Colleges and is eager to add more partnerships to its portfolio.
The SCRTTC is comprised of public transportation agencies and academic members located in Southern, Central and Northern California. It has delivered more than 75,000 hours of training to transit employees on everything from brakes and electrical systems to hybrid vehicles, project management and leadership.
Executive Director Dave Stumpo said the organization works with its members each year to develop a training plan that meets their needs.
“Each year we do a needs assessment across our membership, which drives development,” Stumpo said. “The gaps between what we offer and what the needs are is where we focus our operational and strategic plans.”
Once the plan is in place, the SCRTTC works with community colleges to develop a curriculum for each course. Training typically includes a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on work at transit facilities throughout California.
SCRTTC currently works with the following colleges:
- American River College
- Antelope Valley College
- Cerritos College
- College of the Desert
- El Camino College
- Hartnell College
- LA Trade Tech College
- Rio Hondo College
- Saddleback College
- San Bernardino Valley College
- San Diego Miramar College
- San Joaquin Delta College
- Santa Ana College
Jannet Malig, Advanced Transportation & Logistics Sector Navigator is a member of the Board’s Executive Committee. “We are fortunate to partner with an organization that is aligned with our goals,” she said. “SCRTTC delivers the most up-to-date training to our college instructors, who pass that knowledge on to our students.”
The SCRTTC is not limited to providing training in its region. Stumpo said they’ve worked with transit organizations in Colorado, Washington and New York and hope to do more distance-based training in other parts of California and around the country. Those courses would be a mix of online learning and hands-on work lead by an SCRTTC-certified trainer in the region.
“We have expanded over the years into central and northern California, but our instructors are stretched thin, and we are looking to tap into the expertise in those regions,” Stumpo said. “All a community college would need to do is certify their trainers with us.”
The SCRTTC is actively looking to partner with community colleges across California. For more information visit scrttc.com or contact Stumpo at dstumpo@scrttc.com.
