Mobilize California Summit Brings Together Industry and Education

More than 200 business and education leaders came together August 23 and 24 to chart the future of workforce training in the automotive industry at the Mobilize California Summit.

This first annual event, organized by the Advanced Transportation and Logistics Sector (ATL) of the California Community Colleges, was one of the largest gatherings of industry and academic leaders in alternative fuels and clean transportation technology.

Participants included: high school and college instructors, CTE coordinators, community college administrators, and industry leaders. The program focused on making connections between these groups and displaying new technologies that will keep California at the forefront of alternative fuel vehicle technology.

“It was gratifying to have so many educators and industry professionals in the same room,” said Jannet Malig, ATL Statewide Director. “Their shared ideas for staying current on the latest technologies and preparing our students for the workforce will improve the way we teach.”

The event featured keynote speeches from Andre Arbelaez of the Hispanic C-Suite Corporate Council, Paul Menig of Business Accelerants™ Powered by Tech I-M, and Patty Monahan of the California Energy Commission. It also included plenary sessions on the future of the auto industry and reducing greenhouse gas emissions of medium and heavy-duty vehicles.

Event Emcee and host at The Flying Car, Charlie Vogelheim described it as an “interesting couple of days discussing the education for the technicians that will repair and service our future transportation technologies. The curriculum will be updated as more electronics and sensors are incorporated.”

Planning is already underway for next summer’s Mobilize California Summit. Educators working in alternative fuels at a community college or high school are encouraged to attend. For more information, visit mobilizesummit.com.
